A work of art feels finished, complete. Our class is about helping you through drawing media to learn how to start, organize design and content for original and personal expression. We will learn how to use drawing to see details, position, proportions, and value contrast for stronger accuracy, clearer communication and expression. Our vision is for you to use what you have learned in your life for you living space, communication and self evaluation to help you adjust your actions to achieve desired results. Art taps into the right brain and strengthens the left with its applications to a work and to learning.
Your Drawing Pretest is a formative test for the teacher and for yourself to see your growth after a semester of focused practice. The best way to establish the growth of a student is to compare the student’s first day’s drawing criteria with the student’s work as new drawing approaches and techniques for imaging accuracy..style exploration to increase content and creativity…aesthetic impact from understanding the power of the elements and principles to speak the language of art.
COMPOSITION: is organizing the elements with the principles for a pleasing design that catches our attention with a focal point and keeps us looking as it guides our eye to move and enjoy the entire work.
In Austin’s pretest drawing the detail is good and the composition is balanced in rules of third; however, his solution is common and visual impact is low. Austin’s final work attracts us to his image through a stronger use of contrast in light and shadow and while strengthening the dynamic movement with repeated diagonal patterns in the wood.
CONTENT: controlling spacial design, media techniques and drawing approach to send a message, convey an idea and deliver an emotion.
Alex filled her space in an interesting way but lacked a unity with the arrangement and the context of objects. In her second work, Alex combined several of her Blind Line Contour drawings to build a common message about her future while overlapping to unify her space in layers and patterns. In her last drawing Alex pushed the edges to move our eye around her picture plain with contrast of light and dark which described her forms. She leaves us questioning and lingering to find the message.
CRAFTSMANSHIP: is controlling a consistent stroke with media application techniques without marks, creases or tears distracting us from the composition focal point and content message, idea and emotion.
Ty has an amazing creative brain. His greatest growth came in learning to control the media craftsmanship with technique tips, while maintaining his free personal style. Using a gesture sighting approach with nu pastel on black paper helped Ty control the edges and smudges while still presenting a free loose style of drawing and shading still life forms.
